DESIGN
Tone- Contrast, light and shadow, quality of light
Texture- Surface quality, contrast, pattern
Form- Shape, balance, structure
Color- color contrast, harmony, monochromatic
Things to consider:
• Content: What is my subject? What am I trying to convey?
• Framing: Determine the point of your photo and photograph just thatà Fill the frame with it.
• Background: Make sure they’re aren’t things growing out of people’s heads. Is the background distracting? Is there too much there? One of the most common mistakes made by new photographers is having backgrounds that are too busy.
• Design: Rule of thirds, golden ratio, asymmetry v. symmetry, Dominance & Subordination
• Point or Angle of View : Bird’s eye, High, Low, Neutral: Play with all of these!
GET REAL CLOSE! Ask yourself, “What is my subject? What am I trying to convey?”
Many amateur photographers make the mistake of including too much in one scene. Ask yourselves, “What is it that draws my attention?” Then hone in on it and the frame with it. In the words of Richard Capa, “If your photos aren’t good enough you aren’t close enough.”

Don’t take pictures of the temple, kittens, direct sunsets, etc, unless you can come up with a completely unique way of capturing that image. There’s nothing wrong with them when taking normal pictures, but for the purpose of art photography you want to avoid taking such photographs. To insure originality, do a google image search of your idea (like “converse shoes”) and see how other people have photographed it. I strongly recommend looking at other photos before you get started. You’ll get a lot of ideas and inspiration, and your photograph will look markedly better.
DON’T USE YOUR FLASH!!!!! TURN IT OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don’t photograph facing a direct light source with a digital camera, the camera sensor cannot handle that intensity of light and will blow out the light making for a BAD photo

Note of Warning: You can look at professional photographer’s website, however most photographers have pictures with nudity in them. They are not considered pornography, because the intent is not to arouse sexual desires, so they are not blocked on campus. In most instances, the intent is to portray a completely honest image of the human form or condition.
